The Sun and the Sad House - a picture book on grief by Robyn Te Paiho

Local Porirua Artist, Author & Counsellor Robyn Te Paiho is a local artist and author who also works in Whitby as a Counsellor, at the North Porirua Care Centre (located at the North Porirua Baptist Church in Whitby). Robyn usually likes to paint using textures and acrylic paint, however for her new book. ‘The sun and the Sad House’, she has used oil pastel and crayon to create depth and mood to her pictures. Her book has been a way for her to process her grief after both her husband and father died in 2018, and it has been important for her to tell her story through both art as well as words. Now that her book is published she hopes that it will help others who have lost a loved one, including giving themselves permission to take time and space they need to grieve. This is a story about loss and honouring the grief journey but is also about hope.
The Sun and the Sad House is available for purchase for $25 per copy plus PP (unless you are able to pick up from the North Porirua Baptist Church in Whitby). $5 of the cost is donated to the North Porirua Care Trust.
